Gene Homologs Information
Genes that are from different organisms but are almost identical and have related functions are known as homologs. Homologous genes are usually inherited from the same common ancestor. Studies on homologs are useful as it allows us to determine how similar 2 organisms are. Besides that, if a gene is well conserved across many species, it is most likely that it plays an important role in the fitness or survival of the organisms.
Below is the list of organisms that possess the homologous UBE3A gene:

Analysis
Homologene was used to identify the UBE3A gene homologs. It returned 9 results and each of the homolog was compared with the human copy via blastn. When using megablast as the alignment algorithm, all the homologs had E-values of 0.0 and significant high percentages of identities except for D. rerio, D. melanogaster and A. gambiae where there were no significant similarity found. These 3 homologs were later aligned using the discontiguous megablast algorithm. This suggests that the UBE3A gene is highly conserved in mammals but not in insects.
